This March, Guajardo & Marks is excited once again to announce the $1,000 first-year law student scholarship for the fall of 2017. Guajardo & Marks offered the inaugural scholarship in 2016 and are extremely proud to be able to offer it for a second year in a row.
The scholarship is awarded to the student whose submission most clearly demonstrates creative authorship. As both Mike Guajardo and Greg Marks, partners at the firm, have come to understand, the cost of law school has quadrupled over the last four decades since they attended law school and began practicing law. It is this understanding of the real need for financial support, and compassion for those who are striving to obtain a higher-level degree, that caused Mike and Greg to develop the scholarship in the first place.
“Law school has become incredibly expensive, and we are happy to do whatever we can to encourage creative and driven people to enter the field of law,” said Michael Guajardo. “By offering this scholarship to someone who has demonstrated such high-quality writing skills, we are sure that we’ll find a recipient who is equipped and prepared to succeed in the pursuit of a career in the legal field.”
“We had some impressive submissions last year,” said Greg Marks. “It’s exciting to see applicants so passionate about important issues. We are glad to be able to invest in the future of our profession in such a meaningful way.” The talent of the writers along with the sheer numbers of submissions were the determining factors in continuing this scholarship for the second year. “There is obviously a real need for financial support, as well as great enthusiasm and talent by those who are entering our law schools. We are proud to be a part of their journey,” commented Mike Guajardo.
Requirements for Scholarship Submission:
Applicants for the scholarship should be U.S. citizens or authorized to work in the U.S.; entering a law school in August 2017; and have had an article published in a newspaper, magazine, professional blog or academic publication. The firm does not require that the article be specific to the legal field. The article will be judged for its originality, creativity and ability to clearly convey a complex message.
Applicants can submit the necessary materials via the Guajardo & Marks website. The firm will notify the successful applicant by June 5, 2017. A check for $1,000 will be made payable to the applicable law school and mailed by August 1, 2017, to help defray the recipient’s tuition costs and other expenses.
If you or someone you know is entering their first year of law school and would like to make a submission, please visit the scholarship application page on our site: https://www.guajardomarks.com/legal-award/
