How to Report an Unsafe Vehicle

If you believe that your car is unsafe, your first step would be to get it checked out at the dealership or by a trusted mechanic. This is a good move and it can help ensure your safety and the safety of your family. However, our Dallas auto defect attorneys would like to ask you to take one more step toward auto safety.
Reporting to the NHTSA
To report a vehicle, car seat, tire or car part that you believe is unsafe, visit the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Here, you will be able to file a safety complaint either online or by phone.
When you report a safety concern, you are not just protecting yourself—after all, you have already taken your car in to be fixed—you are doing your part to protect anyone who may be affected by the defect.
Every time the NHTSA gets a safety complaint report, it is added to other similar reports. Based on the number of complaints, the safety agency is able to launch an investigation into the claims and, if needed, issue a recall. Sometimes, one voice is not heard. But in this instance your voice does count.
